A PERFECT LOVE FOR IMPERFECTION

I'm crazy about graphic design. I love illustrations, posters, type...and when you combine the three, well...I love it even more. I'm especially fond of things that are a bit quirky or creations with character. Personally I believe it is much harder to create something that is imperfect and more a reflection of your mind, than just creating a pretty picture. I think it takes a lot to express yourself and dare to be imperfect. But I do think that a greater happiness is to be found in the ability to be yourself, how quirky or imperfect that might be, rather than trying to be perfect. /Annika

WHAT KATIE ATE

I'm a huge fan of food blogs and among my favorites is the blog 'What Katie Ate'. The other day she published a gorgeous online magazine that is a must read for Christmas. This almost 500 pages long magazine is filled with recipes, portraits of food artisans, inspiring photography, and great holiday cheer.
It's going to take some time getting through this magazine, but I promise it will be worth it. So get that pot of coffee going, get out your favorite chair and put up your feet :) Happy Reading! /Annika

projects and holiday cheer

I like to use things or objects in a different way other than what they were intended for. Old photos used as decoration on a tree or as present tags...it's both personal and really charming.
Sweet Paul is a great blog. You'll find tips & ideas for decoration, craft projects and food. All made with a very homey and cozy feel. When you go visit his blog, be sure to check out his online magazine. These pictures are from his holiday issue and I promise you'll find plenty of holiday cheer on those pages. /Annika

all i want for christmas

You know that moment when you think you have everything and couldn´t feel happier? When your wish list for Christmas consists of nothing else but a wish for a wonderful evening with family and friends!?
Well that feeling has turned into a craving for things I don´t even have room for and I have now decided to redo my wish list and include a couple more things. This is how it happened:
I was over at Vosges Paris (great blog) reading & browsing and then suddenly I found myself on the beautiful website of Dave Coote. A couple of clicks and I was weak to my knees. By the time I was done looking (for now), I had remodeled our apartment in my head 3 times to try to fit this gorgeous kitchen. My wish list is now overly crowded and I truly believe there is no such thing as cooking without a blue range cooker. :-) /Annika

winter knitting inspiration

There is something about knitwear and winter. They seem to belong together somehow. I found a few cute pictures on the French site Marie Claire Ideesand they really have this cozy winter holiday feel to them. I almost went out and bought a dog, just so I could knit him a scarf :-)

I know you might not be speaking French, and neither do I, but this site is a real treat. You can always find some inspiration for the home or your next craft project here (Google translate does come in handy, though). /Annika

TREND FORECAST 2011

Over at Design Refuge they have this monthly challenge and we thought it would be fun to be part of it. This month´s theme is trends for 2011.

I don´t consider myself much of a trend follower and I like to believe this is because I surround myself with things for the reason that it moves me and that I have specifically chosen them, not the other way around.
This might sound a bit strange since this is a post about trends, but I actually think this is going to be one of the great trends of 2011. Not following trends....but to be unique and real.
We like to surround our self with things that tell stories, things that we can relate to and enjoy. The home is the place where we live and breathe and this needs to be present in our choice of decorating.
I think we need to feel authentic and whether that is based on an ecological choice, the craftsmanship of the early 1900´s or a sleek design of the 60´s is probably less important. We will choose not based on trend but based on heart.

I believe we´ll see a raw mix of materials like wood, metal, glass, knitwear and rough textiles. The style is likely to be influenced by flea marked finds, reclaimed materials, retro design, vintage industrial furniture, eco-friendly design, graphic prints and ´handmade´. Color wise the earthy tones including white are likely to be the base colors, but I think we’ll see, on top of that, splashes of colors and especially shades of blue and purple. /Annika

inspiration from all corners of the world.

It is easy to get caught up in the blogosphere. Even more easy to loose track of time when searching for inspiration and the way that one post will send you around the world to another great piece of inspiration...hours will fly by.
Today I went by the blog Helt Enkelt (beautiful blog) by Anna-Malin and she had a post on some great posters she bought from Canada, by Eva Juliet. Of couse I then had to check out Eva Juliet's amazing graphic art, just to realise I'd already been there. My eye had caught her vintage poster collection earlier this week in the Gifted Magazine by Creature Comforts. And as I have a weak spot for graphic art, especially when its this beautiful, I just have to share it with you. Here are some of my faves:

Gifted Magazine is the only holiday magazine and gift guide you'll need. You'll find anything from wrapping tips and ideas to great gift suggestion. You might not be able to get all of it here in Scandinavia, but it will definitly spark your list of gift ideas. /Annika
