feeling blue in the kitchen?

I think you all have a favorite color in your kitchen. I know I have... and its a color that makes me happy and inspires me to be creative. And I love to feel that way...being surrounded by things that inspire me. I like retro charm and things that have a worn look. Things like an old tin makes for a great utensil holder. It adds charm and personality to your kitchen and it is fun to come up with new ways of using old stuff. I think my next project will be about turning old finds into christmas decorations that'll match the kitchen.

earthy tones

You know that feeling when you're complety relaxed, everything is in its right place and a calmness spreads through you? That's the way I feel about earthy tones. Its the base for everything else and it will match any other color you combine it with.
It is strange the effect colors has on your mood and surroundings. It does provoke spontaneous feelings or urges, like me sitting here writing this post, not being able to shake the thought of a hot cup of cocoa.... I'm gonna go make one. /Annika

the treasures of a drawer

When I was a kid I loved to go through my grandmother's drawers. They where filled with ribbons, beads and buttons and it was like finding a treasure. I remember that I always liked to group everything into colors and piles. Today I still go through drawers and cabinets, but they are my sisters. She has most of our grandmothers old collection of sewing accessories and she has through the years made quite a collection of her own as well. I always bring my camera and drag everything out on a table and start matching things together to create little settings. Here I will spend hours trying to capture the treasures of a sisters creativity. /Annika

patina and terracotta pots

Perfection is not always the solution if you want to achieve a natural and rough look on your terrace. Often what adds character to a place, is history, giving it a worn look. A nice way to do this is getting all those old pots that you left behind the shed months ago, which has now gathered quite a mossy patina, and plant flowers to suit the seasons in them. This will make your terrace look authentic and earthy.

brisk wind and autumn colors

We love summer because it's warm, everything blossoms and we don't have to wear any shoes. When autumn comes, so does the rain (at least here in Scandinavia) and the question whether to wear boots when going into the garden is more a necessity than a choice. But autumn does offer an inspiring range of colors you don't get to see anytime else during the year. This makes those brutal and cold windy days an experience not to miss and the necessity becomes a choice. /sussi
